Abstract

It is imperative to develop college English students’ autonomous learning ability, since the time for their classroom learning is apparently inadequate. Based on Xu-argument, this research delves into the feasibility of using continuation translation tasks to bolster college English learners’ autonomous learning ability and factors that influence the ability. The findings indicate that continuation translation can effectively enhance students’ autonomous learning ability and that the text complexity affects students’ confidence and engagement in autonomous learning, which in turn influences their self-efficacy and overall autonomous learning ability. This study offers a new perspective and valuable insights for research on Xu-argument and autonomous learning ability.
